On Sunday afternoon, TS Galaxy booked their spot in the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup after defeating third-tier side Amavarara 2-0 at the Bidvest Stadium.
Galaxy made a number of changes to the side that held Kaizer Chiefs to a goalless draw, with new signing Yaimil Rodriguez getting his first start alongside Masilake Phohlongo and Kamogelo Sebelebele.

The Rockets had a respite from league duties, where they are hovering just above the relegation zone, while Amavarara had nothing to lose, representing the Eastern Cape region, where they are top of their ABC Motsepe League stream. Galaxy eventually broke the deadlock just before the break through the shot of Sphiwe Mahlangu in the box.
They quickly doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time thanks to a shot by Phohlongo. Galaxy looked to consolidate the result coming from the break and on the hour-mark they shored up their midfield with the introduction of Orebotse Mongae and a debut for Mpho Mathekgane.
The home side closed the game in the latter stages, as they were not threatened by Amavarara and booked their spot in the round of 16.
Galaxy will now resume their league schedule next Saturday when they travel to AmaZulu, while Amavarara will be looking to take their experience in maintaining their lead at the top of the third-tier log with a game in hand against Thohoyandou FC next Saturday.
