On Friday, City of Cape Town goalkeeper, Richard Lorch, made his debut for the club in a 2-1 win over Stellenbosch FC.
The Bloemfontein native, who joined the club in February, spoke about his debut and the mixed feelings that came with it.
“I just went into it trying to prove myself right, because it’s not really about what everyone says about you, it’s about how I tell myself that I can and I belong here,” Lorch said.
He went on to say that the team started the game well, with the fans providing a great atmosphere. However, the game went south in the second half and eventually ended in a 2-1 loss.
“And now it’s the chance for me to show myself that you really can and it was not really easy. Going into the game we started the first half very (well) and it felt really nice, with the fans, the experience was really nice,” Lorch continued.
“Then second half we end up losing the game. You don’t prepare for such moments as a player, when things start off good in a game and as the game goes on it goes south. But really I believe it’s one of the good games I’ve played, though we lost but generally I played a good game and was happy with myself. You can’t be happy after losing a game but looking back it was really a good experience,” he added.
