Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Andile Jali’s future is in doubt after he has seen a reduction in playing time since head coach Rulani Mokwena was appointed to his current position. Despite this, Mokwena has hinted that if it was up to him, he would keep the former Orlando Pirates midfielder, citing his leadership qualities and his insight as a “third or fourth assistant coach”.
Jali’s agent Mike Makaab has denied reports linking the 32-year old to former club Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs when his contract expires in the winter, and has instead confirmed that they are currently negotiating with Sundowns over a potential renewal of his contract. Makaab also revealed that the Brazilians don’t have an option on Jali’s current contract.

Mokwena has declined to comment on the contractual and financial issues surrounding Jali, instead referring such enquiries to the management of the club. It remains to be seen if Jali would be happy with being involved more in the background than on the pitch under Mokwena, regarding his future.
