Recent Development at Chiefs Raises Questions About Khune’s Future

Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly closing in on offering one of their players, Bontle Molefe, a new contract. Molefe’s current contract is set to expire in June 2023 and his representatives have reportedly been weighing up their options, as the 20-year old can leave on a free at the end of the season. Molefe had a trial at Belgian side Royal Antwerp in April last year, and although Chiefs did not offer any feedback upon his return, it is understood that the junior international goalkeeper already has suitors abroad.

Chiefs are said to rate the 20-year old highly and have tabled an offer for their academy graduate, which is expected to be finalized before the end of the season. As things stand, Molefe is the fourth choice goalkeeper at the Glamour Boys and is yet to make his senior debut despite being promoted four seasons ago by former coach Ernst Middendorp.

Molefe’s camp had previously wanted a clear pathway from Chiefs on how they plan to increase his game-time chances, and it remains to be seen if they would be convinced to sign a new deal. This comes after reports emerged that Chiefs are keeping a close eye on Richards Bay goalkeeper Salim Magoola, whose contract is also set to expire in four months’ time. Magoola has played in all of the Natal Rich Boyz’s league matches this season and has kept an incredible 11 clean-sheets in 19 games.
