Orlando Pirates have made it clear that they are keen to bolster their attack in an effort to turn around their goalscoring woes. According to sources, the Soweto giants have turned their attention to Tanzanian forward George Mpole, who currently plays in the Democratic Republic of Congo for FC Saint Eloi Lupopo.
Mpole, 28, was the top goalscorer in the Tanzanian topflight last season, beating Young African striker Fiston Kalala Mayele by one goal. It is believed that Pirates expressed interest in the player during the 2022 July/August transfer window, however, the club and Geita Gold FC, Mpole’s former club, could not agree on the asking price.
Sources have now revealed that Pirates have reignited their interest in the striker. “What I can tell you is that Orlando Pirates have been following the progress of the player since he was at Geita Gold. Even now that they failed to sign him last year, they are still hunting for him. They want him for next season. It seems they will open two or three foreign spaces next season and George Mpole is supposed to fill up one of those spaces,” the source reveals.
