On Saturday, Makhehlene Makhaula was officially unveiled as Orlando Pirates’ latest signing.
The 33-year-old midfielder was signed from AmaZulu, and he told the Siya Crew that the news came as a surprise to him.
“My agent called me a bit late and told me that I was going (to Pirates). I asked him what he meant and he said I was going to join Orlando Pirates. I didn’t believe it and I couldn’t sleep,” Makhaula said, speaking to the Siya crew on the sidelines of the Soweto Derby press conference held in Midrand.
The former Free State Stars and Highlands Park player added that he was overwhelmed by the messages of congratulations he received from other players, including Oupa Manyisa, Donald Ace Khuse and his current teammate Ben Motswari.
“My family and friends called to congratulate me and also other former Pirates players like Ace Khuse and Oupa Manyisa also congratulated me. It’s good to be here now,” he concluded.
Makhaula expressed his delight at joining the Soweto giants, saying that he had always wanted to play for the club. He is now looking forward to helping the team achieve success.
