Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has provided an update on Ethiopian forward Abubeker Nassir, who suffered an injury against Orlando Pirates.
Nassir’s stint at Sundowns have been plagued by injuries, having missed a total of 15 matches through injury this season. The 22-year-old was on the receiving end of a Siyabonga Mpontshane tackle in the match against Pirates, which saw him substituted at halftime.
Addressing the media ahead of their top-of-the-table match against Richards Bay, Mokwena revealed the extent of the player’s injury. He stated: “Nassir, there is good and bad [news]. The bad is that he is out for quite a bit of time, something very similar to Haashim Domingo because that type of tackle is not only the ankle but it’s the knee so there’s issues in both. Fortunately, it’s not too severe with the knee and he’s not so severe with the ankle, although it is a little bit worse off – but he does not need surgery, that’s the good news.
He will be seeing an ankle specialist in the next few days and then we will probably have a proper timeframe for Nassir.” Mamelodi Sundowns’ Ethiopian forward Abubeker Nassir is set to miss a few matches following an injury he sustained against Orlando Pirates.
Head coach Rulani Mokwena has revealed that Nassir suffered issues in both his knee and ankle due to a tackle from Siyabonga Mpontshane, but fortunately he does not need surgery. He will be seeing an ankle specialist in the next few days to determine a proper timeframe for his recovery.
