With the much-anticipated Soweto Derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates set to take place on Saturday, both teams boast players who could light up the occasion. PSLSA takes a look at four key clashes that could determine the outcome of the match.
Monnapule Saleng and Sifiso Hlanti will face off in a battle of the attackers. Saleng has been in the form of his life this campaign and will be keen to continue that form against Chiefs on Saturday. Hlanti, on the other hand, has the bragging rights of having silenced Liverpool sensation Mohamed Salah while on duty for Bafana Bafana in 2019.

Thembinkosi Lorch and Siyabonga Ngezana will also go head-to-head in what could be a decisive battle in midfield. Lorch has been in impressive form since his return from injury, while Ngezana has been restored to the Chiefs starting XI due to a spate of injuries.
The battle of the captains will see Kaizer Chiefs’ Willard Katsande take on Orlando Pirates’ Happy Jele. Katsande has been blowing hot and cold this season, while Jele has been restored to left back under their Spanish coach Jose Riveiro.
Lastly, Mduduzi Shabalala will take on Miguel Timm in the middle of the park. Shabalala is brimming with confidence as he is set to take place in his first-ever Soweto Derby, while Timm has established himself as a key cog in Pirates midfield with his composure and excellent reading of the game.
