Former Chiefs midfielder Humphrey Mlwane, who has fond memories of the Soweto derby during his Amakhosi days, believes that the clash presents more than just a chance for three points. “Look, despite the consistency part that I am worried about from the side of Chiefs, I think they will rise to the occasion against Pirates. But I’m not too sure if Pirates will want to lose against Chiefs again in the league this season. In fact, in recent seasons Pirates haven’t been lucky in terms of getting good results from Chiefs,” said Mlwane.
Mlwane went on to make a shock prediction for the match, stating, “I think Pirates will come out guns blazing to ensure that they win this game this time around. If I have to put my head on the block, I think Pirates will win this game although it is difficult for me to openly say this, being a former Chiefs player. But football is unpredictable and anything can happen on the day.”
The supporters of both Amakhosi and Amabhakaniya are expected to fill the FNB Stadium to capacity as these two giants of South African football battle for the all-important three points. With pride and bragging rights on the line, the Soweto Derby is sure to be an exciting affair.
