Dolly: We can’t give up, there’s a lot at stake

On Sunday, Kaizer Chiefs star forward Keagan Dolly warned that Mamelodi Sundowns are not yet home and dry in pursuit of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership title.

The Brazilians have been extending their lead at the top of the standings, but Dolly reminded everyone of how the title slipped away from Amakhosi on the final match-day of the 2019/20 season, when they had a big lead under former coach Ernst Middendorp.

“We’re only reaching half-way now, there’s still a lot to play for, I think in the past Sundowns won the league in the last 20 minutes, so anything can happen,” Dolly said at the club’s Open Media Day.

“So I think for us is not to focus on what they are doing. Sundowns is Sundowns, we have our own race to run and that’s what we focus on and our next focus is on Sekhukhune this weekend.” The former Sundowns attacker also spoke about Kaizer Chiefs’ preparations for their upcoming match against Babina Noko, suggesting that the team is building something great.

“We’re definitely looking at their structure, the way they build-up, the way they attack, where their attack starts from, we know they have strong defenders, big defenders,” he said.

“But that’s also things we can use them, we’re very nippy in front, we’ve got pace and we’re just trying to focus on our strengths and not worrying too much on what Sekhukhune has.” Dolly added that the team is building their confidence and minimizing their mistakes, and that they hope to continue their positive streak.

“Because I mean we’re building something great here at Chiefs, you could seen the past few games where we’re conceding less,” he said. “We’re minimizing our mistakes and I think our confidence growing and hopefully we can keep this run going.”
