Downs Nearing Agreement on Contract Extension for Midfielder?

Mamelodi Sundowns are determined to keep one of their homegrown talents at the club for a longer period, the Siya crew can reveal. Sphelele Mkhulise’s current contract with the DStv Premiership defending champions is set to expire on June 30 this year, and sources have revealed that Masandawana are in talks with the 26-year-old for a new deal.

Indications are that the Downs look set to offer the midfielder a two-year contract with a one year option. A source close to the club has revealed that coach Rulani Mokwena has made it clear that Mkhulise is in his plans, and the club has offered him a two-year extension with an additional one-year option.

As previously reported by PSLSA, Cape Town City and Kaizer Chiefs were interested in the Sundowns academy graduate, and the log leaders have acted to avoid losing the player on a free.

Mkhulise joined the club youth set-up in 2012 and was only promoted to the senior team in 2018, spending two loan spells away from the club. Since Mokwena’s appointment as head coach, the midfielder has seen more game-time, with the Siya crew understanding that he has earned himself an extended stay at the Tshwane giants.
