Rulani Approves Loftman Reunion at Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns have appointed Michael Loftman as their set-piece coach, with head coach Rulani Mokwena confirming his “influence” in assembling the technical team. Loftman, who worked with Mokwena at Orlando Pirates, is a highly qualified coach with extensive knowledge of the South African game.

Mokwena spoke of his close relationship with Loftman during a Nedbank Cup press conference, stating that it helps to have someone with “incredible quality” and good relations. He also revealed that his “influence” in assembling his technical team was supported by the club in bringing in the Englishman on board.

“And fortunately the club was in support, because then it’s something that is for the club and to help the club move into a very good direction and we’re very happy, like the statement the club released,” he said.

Mokwena expressed his excitement for the upcoming season, welcoming Loftman with “warm hands” and looking forward to his contribution. He also expressed his gratitude to the rest of the technical team, including senior coach Manqoba Mngqithi and assistant coach Steve Komphela.

“So exciting times ahead and we welcome him with warm hands and we look forward to the contribution he is gonna make,” he said.
