On Thursday, Khama Billiat is set to start training with a DStv Premiership club in the hope of securing a contract. The 33-year-old Zimbabwean sensation is looking to make a return to the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) after parting ways with Kaizer Chiefs earlier this year.
The club Billiat will be training with is Cape Town City, headed by John Comitis – the man who initially brought Billiat to South Africa whilst still at Ajax Cape Town. City have a knack for signing the right players, even the experienced ones, that fit the club’s profile.
Billiat is expected to make his way to the Mother City next week where he will train under the watchful eye of Eric Tinkler and his technical team. While his quality cannot be doubted, especially when fit, Billiat’s signing could be a gamble for the Citizens.
The addition of the former Mamelodi Sundowns star could catapult the Citizens to challenge for honours, or it could be a rescue mission gone wrong. As to which one it will be, remains to be seen when he touches down at the Hartleyvale facilities next week.
