Kaizer Chiefs have been struggling for form in both the Premiership and the MTN8 since the start of the season, when they brought in new coach Molefi Ntseki. Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard have been appointed as his assistants, but former Amakhosi midfielder Josta Dladla believes the players should take some of the responsibility for the team’s poor form.
In an exclusive interview with PSLSA, Dladla said, “The coach can only do so much. Then the players should take over on the field of play. Yes, I haven’t played under coach Ntseki but I believe he is doing his best to see the team do well. The inconsistency has continued from last season where we could not concede but also not score.”
The 44-year-old Soweto native added that the coach knew the pressure that comes with coaching Chiefs when he accepted the job. “It’s true the coach was aware of the pressure that comes with coaching Chiefs. At the time he accepted to be the head coach but the players should be there to help him because if the team doesn’t do well and the supporters are frustrated then it’s the coach who becomes the victim of the violence from the supporters.”
Dladla believes that the players can help the team by raising their game, saying, “The legends who played before us set the bar too high for all of us to maintain it and players have to work hard to do that. If the players can pull up their socks then those situations could be avoided because the results will be good.”
