Ntseki Unfazed by Mdantsane’s Call-Up – Here’s Why

Mduduzi Mdantsane’s call-up to the Bafana Bafana squad has been met with some surprise, but Kaizer Chiefs head coach Molefi Ntseki believes the midfielder has the qualities to fit in with the national team.

The former Cape Town City player has been included as a late call-up in the South African squad, as a replacement for Percy Tau, who withdrew from the team ahead of the friendly internationals against Eswatini and Ivory Coast.

Since joining Chiefs, Mdantsane has made 10 appearances in all competitions, contributing with two assists.

Ntseki, however, believes that the midfielder’s selection to the national team is not only based on form.

“The most important thing is that it depends on the coaching style of Bafana Bafana. What are they looking for? What type of players do they want to bring into the team? I think in terms of his qualities, he fits into what the coaches are looking for and that’s why Mdu has managed to get a call-up. We can only wish him the best of luck in the national team,” Ntseki said.

The Amakhosi have also been drawn to play against AmaZulu in the last 16 of the Carling Knockout competition, which was launched in Johannesburg on Tuesday.

“We need to compliment the PSL and the sponsor to have brought another cup into our league. As Kaizer Chiefs, we are looking forward to doing well in these cup games. AmaZulu are a good side. We’ve played them at FNB, so we want to strike (a good) balance between performance and results. This will be one game where we will be looking to create that balance,” Ntseki added.
