Despite a promising start to the season for Chippa United, the Eastern Cape outfit have failed to win in their last five matches in the DStv Premiership. Under the guidance of coach Morgan Mammila, the team have managed to win four matches in a row before losing to Cape Town City and drawing with Richards Bay FC prior to the league taking a break in October for the FIFA World Cup.
Since coming back from the break, Chippa have drawn one and lost two matches. Despite the recent run of form, sources close to the club have confirmed that chairman Siviwe ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi isn’t pressing the panic button yet, and is pleased with the progress made under Mammila.
Mammila has led the Gqeberha-based outfit to four wins, two draws and three losses since taking over from football legend Daine Klate in September. The impressive run for Chippa included their memorable 2-1 victory over Kaizer Chiefs.
The team will be hoping to turn things around in their next match against Bloemfontein Celtic, and get back to winning ways.
