Pirates in Discussion with Avian Club Regarding Defender

Moroka Swallows and Orlando Pirates have reportedly been in talks about
the future of Bongani Sam, the on loan left back. According to Siya
sources, the Dube Birds are keen to keep the former Bloemfontein Celtic
defender beyond his one-year loan deal.

It is believed that coach Steve Komphela is an admirer of Sam and has
expressed his desire to keep him, while the player himself is also keen on
remaining at Swallows. A Siya source said: “For now it’s all up to
Pirates. Whether they really need to have him or can let him go to a team
where he will play regularly.”

The source added that Sam has been a regular player and dependable left
back for Swallows this season, having played all eight league games. This
is in stark contrast to last season, when he only played nine games for
the whole season.

A second source told the Siya crew that the player himself has made it
clear that he wants to stay at Swallows. The source said: “Every player
wants to be at a club where he can play and given the opportunity and the
money for Swallows to keep him, the player has shown that he wants to
stay. Swallows are also interested in keeping him permanently and that
leaves the ball in Pirates’ court right now.”

The Siya crew approached both clubs for comment but no response was
received.
