Chiefs’ New Coach: A Challenging Start No One Hopes For

On Friday, Kaizer Chiefs’ interim coach Cavin Johnson opened
up on the disappointment of suffering defeat in his first game in charge of
Amakhosi. The team lost 2-1 to Lamontville Golden Arrows at the Mpumalanga
Stadium in KwaZulu-Natal, with Knox Mutizwa scoring a brace and Sifiso
Hlanti netting a consolation goal.

Reflecting on the loss, Johnson lamented his side’s slow start, but chose to
focus on the positives. “No coach in the world wants to have this type of
start,” he said. “When you have this type of start then it’s not good but we
keep our feet on the ground and hopefully we’ll be able to get better next
time.”

The interim coach went on to explain that the job was not about turning
around the team’s fortunes, but rather taking the job that his Chairman
wanted him to do and trying to fix it up. “It’s not Cavin Johnson’s show
this, it belongs to a lot of people and they are putting a lot of effort
into ensuring that we deliver on the eleven versus eleven,” he concluded.
