Royal AM secured their spot in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals on Saturday
afternoon after defeating KwaZulu-Natal rivals Golden Arrows 3-1 in
extra-time.
The match, which took place at the Princess Magogo Stadium, saw Royal AM
make four changes to the side that beat Sekhukhune United, while Arrows
switched four places around from their narrow loss against SuperSport
United.
The first half saw Royal AM take the lead after they were awarded a
penalty on the half-hour mark, which was converted by Ricardo Nascimento.
However, Arrows fought back and Knox Mutizwa equalised in the last kick of
stoppage time.
The game went to extra-time and Royal AM made the most of their numerical
advantage after Arrows were reduced to ten men following Philani Cele’s
red card for a dangerous tackle on Ryan Moon. Thwihli Thwahla then sealed
the victory with two goals from Mashiane in the closing stages.
