Mamelodi Sundowns made sure of their place in the knockout stages of the
CAF Champions League with a dominant 5-2 win over Egyptian giants Al Ahly
on Saturday afternoon.
The Brazilians started off the match with a bang, as Marcelo Allende
found the bottom corner from the edge of the box after just three minutes.
Al Ahly responded quickly, with Mohamed Sherif marking his return to the
line-up with an expert finish into the bottom corner from just outside the
area.

Sundowns restored their lead on 24 minutes when Themba Zwane got on the
end of Mothobi Mvala’s knockdown before calmly slotting past Mohammed El
Shenawy.
Teboho Mokoena then grabbed the third goal with a superb strike from
distance five minutes before the halftime break.
The second half saw the home side extend their lead further, with Zwane
grabbing his second of the game in the 54th minute, before Gaston Sirino
added a fifth on the hour mark.
Al Ahly did manage to grab a late consolation goal through substitute
Marwan Mohsen, but it proved to be too little too late as Sundowns ran out
comfortable 5-2 winners.
The result sees Mamelodi Sundowns qualify for the knockout rounds of the
CAF Champions League, and will now turn their attention to their next
match against Al Merreikh.
