Kaizer Chiefs have announced the appointment of veteran coach Cavin
Johnson as the club’s head of development, with indications that Kaizer
Motaung Jnr, the club’s Sporting Director, was a driving force behind the
decision. According to Siya sources, Johnson’s unique history with the
Motaung family was the catalyst in the development of Kaizer Jnr before he
left for Europe.
“He was the coach that in true sense introduced him to football. He used
to play cricket at school but when he joined Wits Juniors coach Cavin
(Johnson) was the one who saw the talent in him. Before he went to
Germany, he played under coach Cavin and that’s how he knew that he is a
good youth coach. That experience with him at the junior level has helped
Kaizer Jnr reach the decision to make the appointment,” a source revealed.
Insiders have further indicated that Amakhosi looked to finding a coach
with experience in junior football as well as the knowledge of development
structures from youth level to senior teams. “They have been considering
an appointment for this position for sometime now since Molefi Ntseki was
appointed head coach and knowing Cavin Johnson, Junior worked with him at
Wits Juniors and he is the one who developed him so he knows his strength.
And also he is one of the coaches who hold the same philosophy of the same
Ted Dimitru. The others are coach Zipho Zangalala and Sudesh Singh. Junior
recommended that coach Cavin join the club and with his experience it’s
good for the team,” the source added.
Kaizer Chiefs have appointed Cavin Johnson as their head of development,
in a move that is believed to have been spearheaded by Kaizer Motaung Jnr.
Johnson’s past relationship with the Motaung family is believed to have
played a key role in the decision, with Johnson having been the one to
introduce Kaizer Jnr to football before his move to Europe. Amakhosi were
looking for a coach with experience in junior football and knowledge of
development structures, and Johnson is believed to have been the perfect
fit for the role.
