Maswanganyi’s Last Minute Call: Life Has Not Changed

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe’s future at the club is
uncertain, according to sources close to the team.

The arrival of Sibongiseni Mthethwa is said to have put Sithebe’s role in
the first team in jeopardy. The Siya crew understands that Chiefs wanted
to keep Sithebe as cover to provide depth in the squad.

However, there are now talks to let his contract run its course until
June 2024, when he could leave as a free agent.

Additionally, should there be any interest in the player in January 2024,
Chiefs may be open to him leaving in that summer transfer window.

“You know there were talks to renew Sithebe’s contract for another year
until June 2025 but since the team has signed Sibongiseni (Mthethwa) it
doesn’t look good for Sithebe,” said the Siya source.

“The club would like to see him finish off his contract but they won’t
renew it. But also there is a possibility of him moving earlier than that
if there are offers in January whether on loan or a permanent move.”

Another source stated that Chiefs’ decision to not renew Sithebe’s
contract when it expires next year in June, is part of cutting down the
wage bill at the club.

“They can not just keep all the players as that will affect the team
financially and since the signing of Mthethwa the club has looked at which
players can be released and one of them is Siyethemba Sithebe,” the source
said.

The Siya crew contacted Chiefs for comment but received no response while
preparing this story. It remains to be seen what the future holds for
Sithebe, but it appears that his time at Kaizer Chiefs may be coming to an
end.
