Shakira: Ready to Take on Coaching Role at Pirates

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Joseph “Shakira” Kamwendo has declared
his readiness to coach in the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL).
The former Malawian international, who is currently coaching a Super
League side in his home country, Bangwe All Stars, has obtained all the
necessary qualifications and certificates to coach at the highest level.

In an exclusive interview with PSLSA, Kamwendo said, “I have learnt a lot
now coaching here in Malawi. I started with coaching at youth level and at
the academy, then as assistant coach at top clubs like Mighty Wanderers. I
know it’s not easy to coach in South Africa as I have played there and I
know the pressure. But I am ready now to coach there. Whether it’s as an
assistant coach at a Premiership side or I can start as a head coach at a
Motsepe Foundation side. I am well qualified to coach there.”

Kamwendo also expressed his desire to coach his former team, Orlando
Pirates, but said he would be open to coaching any other team as long as
he can contribute to the sport. He said, “I know and respect the
requirements of coaching in South Africa so I had to prepare myself first
before saying I am ready for that. Now, I can say ‘I am ready’. I would be
very happy if I can be given the chance at my former team Orlando Pirates
but I wouldn’t mind coaching any other team as long as I am going to
plough back to the sport that has given me a lot.”
