On Monday, South Africa will face off against the same opponents in the
second leg of the COSAFA Cup semi-final.
Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos expressed his deep disappointment
after his side’s goalless draw against Eswatini on Friday evening.
The South Africans, ranked 73rd in the world, failed to make an
impression against the 144th-ranked opponents, with only five shots on
target in the match.
Speaking to SABC Sport TV after the match, Broos said: “I’m more than
disappointed, I didn’t understand why the team was playing like this,
already the first half no passion, no rhythm, I don’t know what’s
happening, really I don’t know what’s happening.”
The Belgian coach made a triple substitution at halftime in an attempt to
improve the situation, but to no avail.
“You have to do something, when we were playing the first half, it was a
disaster, it was very bad. I think we didn’t have one chance, we had one
chance I think 20 minutes before the end, for the rest nothing, not even
being dangerous,” he said.
Bafana Bafana will have a chance to redeem themselves when they face
Eswatini in the second leg of the COSAFA Cup semi-final on Monday.
