On Monday, Kaizer Chiefs issued a formal apology to the Premier Soccer
League (PSL) for their supporters’ behaviour at matches against SuperSport
United and Mamelodi Sundowns. The Soweto giants had earlier been fined by
the PSL Disciplinary Committee and warned about the possibility of playing
without fans for one game if another incident occurs.
In a statement, Kaizer Chiefs unreservedly apologized to the PSL, all PSL
member clubs, SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns, and their
peace-loving supporters, for the behaviour of some of its supporters at the
two matches. The Club condemned the behaviour in the strongest possible
terms.
Kaizer Chiefs also announced that they have already commenced a process of
engaging with their branches on supporter behaviour at football matches.
They expressed their disappointment and embarrassment at the behaviour of a
few individuals who had tarnished the Club’s reputation and that of its
supporters.
The Club reaffirmed its commitment to the promotion of fair play and respect
for the opposition, match officials and other supporters, and said that it
would continue to engage with its supporters and stakeholders to ensure that
the Club’s values are upheld at all times.
