Orlando Pirates have ended their run of three consecutive defeats with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Golden Arrows at Orlando Stadium on Saturday evening.
The Buccaneers started the match strongly and took the lead through Fortune Makaringe’s goal in the 11th minute.
However, Arrows equalised from the penalty spot through Knox Mutizwa in the 33rd minute. Pirates restored their lead in the second half through a strike from Augustine Mulenga in the 63rd minute.
However, Arrows again equalised through a goal from Nduduzo Sibiya in the 75th minute. The Buccaneers were not to be denied as they grabbed the winner through a goal from Gabadinho Mhango in the 89th minute.
After the match, Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro praised the impact of his substitutes, saying they were instrumental in the win. He also revealed that Miguel Timm and Bandile Shandu had to be withdrawn due to injury.
Riveiro was not entirely happy with the performance but was pleased with the result, as the three points have closed the gap between them and the teams in the top half of the table.
