Once a Pirate! Modabi’s New Role at Bucs Officially Confirmed

The Siya crew can reveal that Gerald ‘Jomo’ Modabi has returned to
Orlando Pirates in a new role at the club. Modabi played for the
Buccaneers between 2006 and 2008, before rejoining his former team Dynamos
FC. He also had stints at SuperSport United, Wits University, Silver Stars
and Jomo Cosmos, during the early stages of his career.

The 41-year-old was known as a midfield strongman, who gave opponents a
tough time with his high work rate. However, it can be argued that his
off-the-field antics affected his career.

Sources have now confirmed to the Siya crew that Modabi has joined the
club as a coach in the youth ranks. “Gerald Modabi is back at Orlando
Pirates and is with the development. He is coaching the club’s U19 team,”
said the source.

When contacted for comment, Modabi refused to confirm his return to the
Bucs on official appointment, though he did not deny his presence at the
club. “I’ve got a friend at Pirates and that is Joseph Makhanya who is my
former teammate and I will visit now and again to talk about football,” he
said.
