Chiefs & Pirates Keepers Offer ‘Stiff’ Competition for Goss

SuperSport United goalkeeper Ricardo Goss has expressed his desire to be
called up to the South African national team, Bafana Bafana. Goss is
currently in the first season of his two-season long loan deal from
Mamelodi Sundowns and has played consistently enough to feel he is worthy
of a call-up.

The senior national team have two 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers
against Liberia in March and Goss is hopeful of being included in Hugo
Broos’ squad. He faces competition from Kaizer Chiefs’ Brandon Petersen
and Sipho Chaine of Orlando Pirates, as well as Ronwen Williams and Veli
Mothwa who have been regulars in the side.

“I think I have done enough, but you know the competition is stiff. You
just do what you need to do and the rest is up to the coach,” said Goss to
the Siya crew.

Goss is encouraged by the increasing number of South African goalkeepers
playing for big clubs, believing it is good for the national team. He
added: “Obviously Ronwen has been doing well. There’s Melusi, there’s
Brandon Petersen now and there’s also Sipho from Pirates. It’s good to see
South African goalkeepers starting to feature at the big clubs. It’s good
for our national team. That’s why I say the competition is on another
level now.”
