Keagan Dolly, the stand-in captain of Kaizer Chiefs, has expressed his
disappointment at being separated from his attacking partner Khama
Billiat. The two have formed a formidable partnership since their days at
Ajax Cape Town (now Cape Town Spurs) and Mamelodi Sundowns, and more
recently, Kaizer Chiefs.
The duo have been a key part of the ‘CBD’ trident at Sundowns under coach
Pitso Mosimane, and have been instrumental in Chiefs’ early season form.
However, Billiat has been plagued by injury this campaign, and Dolly
believes this has been a major contributing factor to Chiefs’
inconsistencies.
“Obviously, I miss playing with Khama, we all know what he can bring on
the day. His experience, his quality just our understanding. But it’s part
of the game, He’s out and there’s other players that can come and do the
same job,” he said in a press conference at the Wanderers Country Club.
Dolly went on to explain that the lack of understanding between players
has been a major issue for Chiefs this season, and that Christian, the new
player, is still trying to adapt to the team’s playing style.
“It’s just for us to start understanding each other. I think that’s been
our main problem, the inconsistency of trying to get combinations right
and then one player gets injured, and another player comes in. I think
Christian came into the squad, he’s a new player still trying to adapt to
the way we play. It’s progress for us, we need to keep on working on it
until we get it right again,” he said.
Kaizer Chiefs have taken a step in the right direction with their Soweto
Derby win over Orlando Pirates last weekend, and will be hoping to
replicate that feat against Richards Bay this Saturday.
