Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena is confident that the PSL
Footballer of the Season award will be won by one of his players. The last
three awards have gone to Sundowns players, with Peter Shalulile claiming
two and Themba Zwane the other. As the season draws to a close, Mokwena
believes that a Sundowns player will be picking up the trophy and prize
money yet again.
Cassius Mailula, Ronwen Williams and Teboho Mokoena have all impressed for
the DStv Premiership champions and could feature when the award is
announced. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Mokwena said: “If it
were up to me, I would give all of them the player of the year. I think
they have been magnificent. I’ve said it in every press conference that
the game belongs to the players and I think the Sundowns players, in a
heightened perspective, have been magnificent and for sure I think it will
come from the Sundowns squad because I don’t think that there is anyone
who has performed beyond the levels that the Sundowns players have
performed.”
With less than three months to go before the end of the season, some of
the in-form players in the PSL have an opportunity to enhance their
chances of being nominated for the big award. Mokwena added: “It’s going
to be a difficult one and fortunately I am not one of the judges to
choose. It’s going to be difficult because a lot of the Sundowns players
have been exceptional and extremely consistent.”
