Insider Insights: Pirates Reach Decision on Monare’s Future?

Wednesday, saw Orlando Pirates look set to offer one of the club’s
industrious midfielders, Thabang Monare, a new deal. Monare was released
from the Buccaneers and then re-signed by the Soweto giants at the start
of the season, and is now in the last six months of his deal.

According to an insider, Monare has impressed coach Jose Riverio, leading
the technical team to recommend that he stay for another season. The
source told the Siya crew, “The technical team is happy with his
performance this season and they feel like there is still a lot that he
can contribute to the team. He is a leader in the dressing room and a
fighter on the field of play and he brings that fighting spirit to the
team. That’s why they want to keep him for a further year.”

Monare joined Pirates in 2020 from Bidvest Wits, and has since won the
MTN8 with Pirates and a Premiership title and Nedbank Cup during his time
at Wits.

The 33-year-old has been an integral part of the Buccaneers’ side and
looks set to stay for another season, with the club hoping to benefit from
his experience and leadership on the field.
