Mamelodi Sundowns have taken the bragging rights in the Tshwane derby after claiming a 1-0 victory over local rivals SuperSport United in a tightly contested DStv Premiership match at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Monday evening.
The Brazilians started the game on the front foot and nearly went ahead early on as a deflected clearance by SuperSport was saved by goalkeeper George Chigova. Matsatsantsa also had their chance to take the lead, but Thapelo Maseko missed a great opportunity when he dragged his shot wide.

Sundowns finally broke the deadlock just before halftime as Neo Maema placed a composed finish into the roof of the net after combining with Cassius Mailula in the box.
The second half was a much tighter affair, with neither side able to create many chances. However, SuperSport nearly equalised in the 73rd minute when Iqraam Rayners almost went clear on goal, but Mothobi Mvala made a last-ditch tackle to snuff out the opportunity.
The Brazilians then had a chance to put the game to bed in the dying minutes, but Peter Shalulile’s strike was expertly saved by Chigova. SuperSport were still in it and Maseko came close to snatching the equaliser moments later with a shot that came off the crossbar, but Sundowns held on for their 11th win in a row and moved 14 points clear at the top of the DStv Premiership table.
