Mamelodi Sundowns have had a tumultuous week off the field, but are now
focused on the African Football League opener against Angolan outfit Petro
de Luanda. On Wednesday evening, the South African side went into the
Carling Knockout clash against TS Galaxy without eight internationals,
while Lucas Ribeiro Costa was also unavailable to feature. This was
followed by Bongani Zungu’s leg-breaking challenge on Bernard Parker, for
which many called for a public apology.
Adding to the chaos, Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena was accused by
Glenvista High School of allegedly manhandling one of its pupils, as
reported by Sunday World. Now, with little time to rest in between, the
Sundowns have had to travel to Angola to start preparing for the clash
against Petro.
Fortunately, they have their international stars back in the team, which
gives Mokwena more options when picking his starting line-up. The South
African side will now need to show a true spirit of champions by putting
the recent issues behind them and focusing on the task at hand, before
coming back to face the same side in the second leg clash in Pretoria next
Tuesday.
