Sundowns Unveil Starting XI for AFL Opening Clash

Mamelodi Sundowns will kick off their African Football League campaign
against Petro de Luanda this evening, in a match that is sure to be a
hotly contested affair. The Brazilians were involved in action a day after
the international break, when they were bundled out of the Carling
Knockout by TS Galaxy on penalties.

Rulani Mokwena will have his full squad at his disposal, as seven of his
players returned from Bafana Bafana’s match in Cote d’Ivoire. Themba
Zwane, Teboho Mokoena and Khuliso Mudau, among others, have all made the
trip with Sundowns for this evening’s clash.

These two sides are no strangers, having last met in the 2021/22 CAF
Champions League season where the Angolan giants eliminated Sundowns in
the quarter-final round on the away-goal rule. During that tie, Sundowns’
trip to the Estadio 11 de Novembro ended in a 2-1 defeat in the first leg.

Both teams have announced their line-ups for the match, with Petro de
Luanda fielding Marques, Pinto, Miguel, Eddie, Kinito, Soares, Carlinhos,
Alexandre Guedes, Toro, Cruz, and Gilberto. Mamelodi Sundowns, meanwhile,
will start with Williams, Mvala, Boutouil, Mudau, Modiba, Kekana,
Mkhulise, Zwane, Allende, and Mendieta. The substitutes for the Brazilians
include D.Onyango, De Reuck, Lebusa, B.Onyango, Nku, Zungu, Sirino,
Mashego, Mabena, Maseko, Maema, and Coetze.

The match between Petro de Luanda and Mamelodi Sundowns is set to take
place this evening at the Estadio 11 de Novembro, with kick-off scheduled
for 17h30.
