Mamelodi Sundowns have opened up a 14-point gap at the top of the DStv Premiership table, leading the pack with 17 games played.
However, SuperSport United coach, Gavin Hunt, believes the runaway log leaders should not be judged by their performance in the league, but rather on how they fare in the CAF Champions League.
Speaking to members of the media after his team’s loss to Sundowns on Monday, Hunt said, “Sundowns shouldn’t be judged on the PSL, to be fair. Let’s be honest, they should be judged on the [CAF] Champions League. They should be in the semi-final or final every year. That’s how you should judge them because the gap is so much bigger than everyone in South Africa and it’s unfortunate, but it is the way the game has gone.”
Hunt praised Sundowns for their impressive performance in the CAF Champions League, saying, “Sundowns, they’ll win, they’re fantastic and they should do. They’ve got a really good team, good coaches, good club who have gone to another level, it’s fantastic. You’ve got to commend them, they put their money where their mouth is and they go for it.”
The Brazilians will face Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, having managed an impressive 4-0 win over Amakhosi in the first round. Kick off for the match is at 20:00.
