Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Njabulo Blom has revealed that he was aware of the prospect of moving overseas in the games leading up to the FIFA World break. Blom’s agent, Rob Moore, had previously revealed that they were not happy with the salary package proposal by Amakhosi for his client to renew his contract.
The Glamour Boys eventually came to an agreement to sell their academy graduate to Major League Soccer outfit St. Louis City SC in December, where he will be coached by South African and club legend Bradley Carnell.
Blom played his last game for Amakhosi in the Soweto Derby win over Orlando Pirates just before the FIFA World Cup break at the end of October last year. The 23-year old admitted that he had to perform in that game despite knowing he was leaving, to leave a lasting impression on the supporters.
“Obviously, I had to perform in that game, irrespective of me leaving but I feel like I was doing it for the supporters, we were doing it for the supporters,” Blom said on Metro FM Sports.
He went on to reveal that he had to remain professional and show respect to the club in the last few matches before the recess despite knowing that he was leaving. “To be quite honest, I was excited but also I had to be professional enough not to disrespect the team and give it my all at training, whether I play games or (not),” he added.
Blom conspicuously missed the Carling Black Label Cup tournament a week after the derby win, due to “illness” but was available for Bafana Bafana camp a few days after the one-day friendly competition.
