DStv Premiership: Maritzburg United make it three wins out of three

Maritzburg United earned their third consecutive victory in the DStv Premiership on Saturday afternoon, securing a last-gasp 1-0 win over KwaZulu-Natal rivals Golden Arrows at the Princess Magogo Stadium.

Both teams made two changes to their line-ups ahead of the game, with Gladwin Shitolo and Themba Mantshiyane getting their first starts of the season for Arrows, and Brian Hlongwa and Reagan Van der Ross coming into the Maritzburg team.

The hosts had the better of the first half, with Pule Mmodi having a good sight at goal, but his shot went just over the crossbar. Maritzburg could not capitalize on the hot conditions and the sides went to the break without goals.

Fadlu Davids made an attacking change just after the hour-mark, introducing Jose Ali Meza who was making his second debut for the Team of Choice, and the game opened up as both sides pushed for the winner.

Divine Lunga had a good chance for Arrows with 13 minutes to go, glancing a free header wide from a set-piece situation, while Knox Mutizwa rattled the crossbar for the hosts with an indirect free-kick.

As the game stretched into stoppage time, Genino Palace hit the post for Maritzburg with a diagonal shot from outside the box, before Meza eventually found the winner for the Team of Choice at the death with a low strike across Sifiso Mlungwana in the Arrows goal.

The win took Maritzburg up to 11th on the table, while Arrows dropped down to 13th.
