Chippa United suffer their seventh game without a win in the Premiership

Chippa United extended their winless streak to seven matches in the DStv Premiership after they secured a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Royal AM on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts got off to a fast start at the Chatsworth Stadium, with Motebang Sera firing in the opening goal of the game within six minutes of kick-off. Morgan Mammilla’s charges looked to get back into the game and threatened particularly on set-pieces, but could not make goalkeeper Hugo Nyame work in goal.

Royal AM continued to absorb the pressure and were looking to catch the Chilli Boys on counter-attacks, but the visitors had the momentum, although they resorted to fruitless long range efforts, as they went to the break trailing by an odd goal.

Chippa started the second half strongly and Siphelele Luthuli eventually had a shot on target just before the hour-mark, only to be denied by Nyame.

The hosts looked for inspiration from the bench in the last 20 minutes, but it was Chippa who eventually found the equaliser eight minutes before time after Etiosa Ighodaro fired a low shot to the bottom corner from a cross by Ronaldo Maarman.

The sides eventually settled for a point apiece, as Chippa remained in ninth place on the log and Royal AM in tenth, both equal on 21 points.
